Outflows in Regions of Star Formation
نویسنده
چکیده
The high spatial and spectral resolution offered by the new generation of infrared spectrometers at ESO is optimally suited for the observational study of outflows from young stellar objects. Models of interstellar shock waves would benefit from observations of spectrally resolved line profiles. This applies also to attempts of measuring the rotation rates of jets very close to their driving source, which in general suffer considerable extinction. Observations of forbidden lines of ionised iron, [Fe II], could be used to accomplish this. The possibility of using rotational lines of molecular hydrogen, H2, to study the temporal evolution of outflow and disk gas is discussed. Similarly, high resolution IR observations of fluorescent water lines, H2O, open up the possibility to access outflow and disk water from the ground.

Precursors of Uchii Regions & the Evolution of Massive Outflows
Since this contributions was meant to cover two subjects which are both in the field of massive star formation but which in its details can be discussed separately, this paper is divided in two sections. First, we present characteristics of precursors of UCHii regions and their likely evolutionary properties. The second section discusses massive molecular outflows, their implications for high-m...
متن کاملPhotoionising feedback in star cluster formation
We present the first ever hydrodynamic calculations of star cluster formation that incorporate the effect of feedback from ionising radiation. In our simulations, the ionising source forms in the cluster core at the intersection of several dense filaments of inflowing gas. We show that these filaments collimate ionised outflows and suggest such an environmental origin for at least some observed...
متن کاملSK 1 : A Possible Case of Triggered Star Formation in Perseus
According to a triggered star formation scenario (e.g. Martin-Pintado & Cernicharo 1987) outflows powered by young stellar objects shape the molecular clouds, can dig cavities, and trigger new star formation. NGC1333 is an active site of lowand intermediate star formation in Perseus and is a suggested site of self-regulated star formation (Norman & Silk 1980). Therefore it is a suitable target ...
متن کاملMolecular Outflows and a Mid-infrared Census of the Massive Star Formation Region Associated with Iras 18507+0121
We have observed the central region of the infrared-dark cloud filament associated with IRAS 18507+0121 at millimeter wavelengths in CO(J 1⁄4 1Y0), CO(J 1⁄4 1Y0), and CO(J 1⁄4 1Y0) line emission andwith Spitzer at midinfrared wavelengths. Five massive outflows from two cloud cores were discovered. Three outflows are centered on or near an ultracompact (UC) H ii region (G34.4+0.23), while the re...
متن کاملMolecular outflows towards O-type young stellar objects
Context. The formation of massive stars is not well-understood and requires detailed observational studies in order to discriminate between the different proposed star formation models. Aims. We have searched for massive molecular outflows in a sample of high-mass star forming regions, and we have characterised both the outflow properties and those of their associated molecular clumps. With a s...
متن کاملMassive Star Outflows
Molecular outflows in the form of wide-angle winds and/or well-collimated jets are associated with young stellar objects of all luminosities. Independent studies have established that the mass outflow rate is proportional to L bol for Lbol = 0.3 to 10 5 L⊙, suggesting that there is a strong link between accretion and outflow for a wide range of source luminosity and there is reasonable evidence...
